About Mike Sigel

Mike Sigel has been playing pool since the age of thirteen, and turned pro at age twenty. During his professional career, Sigel has won over 102 major pool and pocket billiards tournaments, including six US Opens and five World Championships. Sigel was named player of the Year three times, youngest member inducted in the BCA Hall of Fame and voted the World's Greatest Living Player.

Sigel set a world record in 1992 - beating his own previous record - for the quickest 150-and-out at the 1992 15th Annual Straight Pool US Open. Sigel retired in 1994 after the World 9-Ball Championship, with a ranking of second in the world!

Sigel has been featured on television and in print many times, including appearances on ABC's Wide World of Sports, CBS Sports Cable TV, Good Morning America, ESPN Night Watch and more. Publications featuring Sigel's accomplishments include Playboy, Sports Illustrated, Parade Magazine, People, LIFE, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today to name a few.

Sigel's expertise has even propelled him onto the silver screen. He played himself in the movie Baltimore Bullet, and was the technical advisor, instructor and choreographer for the shots made by Paul Newman (who won the Academy Award for Best Actor), and Tom Cruise in the movie The Color of Money.

Though retired, Mike Sigel still does special appearances and exhibitions. In 1998 he won an invitational tournament in Paris, France - his first tournament since retiring in 1994. Sigel is still very active within the industry, and serves as a guest commentator for ESPN Sports.
